GAMES REVIEW
------------
WARZONE - Core Design - £24.99
Having Commando on the old 8-Bit (???) BBC, which was quite good
for the computer, I found Commando for my new STE, and I must say
it was a very good improvement, but since then there hasn't been
a Commando type game for ages, but here is one now that beats the
socks off Commando.
Warzone as its called, (Quite obvious reasons!), is for one or
two players, joystick controlled shoot-the-hell-out-of-everything
sort of game. Its about identical to the gameplay in Commando
but this effort is about six times as good.
Pressing the fire button starts your quest, all you have to do is
shoot everything that moves except the hostages of course!
The firebutton pressed makes your hero shoot bullets while
keepibng it down makes him throw grenades (smart bombs really!).
The games is a scrolling up screen game, with fast furious
action, all the way.
Along the way you collect certain items, weapon cases, which
contain rocket lanuchers, grenades, gun and lasers etc. some
hold energy renwals, extra smart bombs.
Rescuing the hostages you pass gives you star merits, for extra
points. Shooting them makes them drop to the floor like a bag of
potatoes (Well they would wouldn't they!).
Something Commando didn't really concentrate on were end-of-level
guardians, Warzone does, these are usually huge tanks with big
guns (I mean BIG!), they take quite a while to destroy as well.
VERDICT:
Warzone has excellent grafix, and quite good sound too, and all
in all the game is quite playable.
GRAFIX 82%
SOUND 78%
PLAYABLE 88%
APPEAL 90%
